The Velindre Hospital Cancer Appeal

Robert Rowley was 39 years old when doctors told him that he had Cancer, and over the next fourteen months, Robert bravely faced an ordeal of several operations and Chemotherapy.

Robert was born in Cardiff on October 5th, 1962 and grew up in the Whitchurch area of the city. He was a very popular figure and made many friends during his lifetime.

Throughout his treatment Robert coped positively and without complaint and tried to live as normal a life as was possible. When he passed away in August 2003 many people were inspired to help raise money for the hospital where Robert received treatment for his illness.

Shortly after Robert passed away, his cousin Neil Griffiths was inspired to write and record some music as a tribute to Robert, and to raise funds for the Hospital that provided Robert with loving care and helped him cope with his illness and keep his dignity.

Neil Takes up the story:

"The song "Only Angels Have Wings" was written in the days after Rob's passing and came straight from the heart. The memories (and tears), came flooding back and I felt compelled to express my feelings in the best way I could. The second track "Waterfall" is a short instrumental piece that I composed a few years ago. It is Included here with the hope that people will reflect and think of all the good times. I hope that this music will serve as a lasting memory of a much loved and sadly missed man. He was a first cousin and my first friend, and the most gentle person you could wish to meet. His presence touched us all. He was, and is, a True Angel. God Bless you Rob... Neil. Sept '03"
